Mestalla opened its doors this Tuesday to begin the distribution of non-perishable foodstuffs and pre-cooked meals amongst hundreds of Valencian families, in an initiative by the club as part of the AMUNTWorld social commitment campaign. In attendance were Valencia CF president Anil Murthy, director José Luis Zaragosí and ambassadors Ricardo Arias, Miguel Tendillo and Miguel Ángel Bossio.
Those who had requested the help of the Banco de Acción Solidaria charity -who receive products for donation from the Banco de Alimentos de Valencia foodbank- were attended to from the morning, respecting social distancing measures. They were greeted by volunteers by both the charity and the Fundación ‘la Caixa’ at the Agrupacio de Penyes headquarters.
CaixaBank's head of social action in the Valencia region, Encarnación Alcaide, was present on behalf of the institution, whilst Banco de Alimentos de Valencia president, Jaime Serra, Banco de Acción Solidaria president, Julio Pròsper, and Agrupacio de Penyes president, Fede Sagreras, represented their respective entities. Anil Murthy greeted the volunteers and discussed the importance of the initiative at a time of great need.
"This initiative is here to help those who need donations of food, for them and for their families to eat; above all, in this difficult time of the coronavirus crisis," he explained.
"I have been told that the problem has been increased significantly during this crisis. It is very important that these acts of solidarity are carried out during these moments, and that we all come together to help."
Although he was not at Mestalla in person, CaixaBank's regional director, Xicu Costa, was present via videolink. He told VCF Media that "When we do these types of actions, we feel better. CaixaBank has started the #ContigoMásQueNunca programme, with the ‘Ningún Hogar Sin Alimentos’ sub-programme. Along with this ‘AMUNT World’ project, we are working together with a focus on helping vulnerable families, with actions in the city of Valencia and in the entire region."
